Kenny Torres - Former Teacher and Varsity Coach at Los Alamitos USD

A California-based teacher with over 20 years of experience, Kenny Torres has taught science, math, and physical education for the Long Beach Unified School District, Los Alamitos Unified School District, and The Education Corps Charter School. Prior to joining the charter school in 2017, Kenny Torres taught at Los Alamitos for 18 years, during which time he earned a Science Teacher of the Year award and coached the varsity wrestling team to its first-ever Sunset League Championship. He also earned Orange County Coach of the Year honors in 2002 and is being inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2018.

Beyond wrestling, Mr. Torres has served on the coaching staff of varsity sports such as gymnastics, track and field, and golf. Additionally, he has extensive experience as a PA announcer during varsity football games and has served as captain of an emergency search-and-rescue team. As a teenager, he earned a National Scouting Award for the life-saving measures he took in treating a wound received by a child he was babysitting.

Mr. Torres earned an associate of arts degree in general education from Golden West College in 1989 and later graduated cum laude from California State University, Long Beach, with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology and biology. In 2010, he received a master’s degree in coaching administration from Concordia University.
